EU SUSTAINABLE ENERGY WEEK 2026 – Cross-Border Energy Communities and Interregional Cooperation: Fostering the development of energy communities across borders
DG REGIO, AEBR and MOT are hosting a session on Cross-Border Energy Communities and interregional cooperation at EUSEW2026, the biggest annual event dedicated to renewables and efficient energy use in Europe.
The session will explore the opportunities and challenges of cross-border energy communities, showcase CBEC pilot projects from across Europe, and discuss how Interreg and DG REGIO are supporting citizens’ energy cooperation at cross-border and interregional level. It will include live polling and a participatory brainstorming open to both in-person and online participants.

INTERACT WEBINAR – Cross-Border Energy Communities – Unlocking Cooperation for a Clean Energy Transition
Setting up CBECs presents challenges, from legal and regulatory barriers to coordination across jurisdictions. In this webinar, INTERACT will explore how Interreg programmes and projects are already tackling these issues, how EU policy frameworks support the development of CBECs, and what opportunities lie ahead for programmes and stakeholders.
The session will bring together the European Commission, experts, Interreg programmes and projects, and support initiatives, providing inspiration, practical examples, and guidance to help programmes strengthen their role in supporting the clean energy transition.
